The Foundation Phase

The first years of a child’s schooling career are very aptly named “THE FOUNDATION PHASE” as it is in these years that the foundations are laid upon which all future learning takes place. It is imperative that these foundations are STRONG, or trying to build on them in the later years will be that much more difficult.

The Reception Grade – GRADE R where the journey begins

Our reception grade programme uses purposeful play, and other stimulating activities to engage children while meeting learning goals. All the selected resources and materials cater to our community of bilingual students and provide students with the opportunity to develop the core domains of learning.

Through our carefully planned daily programme, the youngest students at our school experience significant growth toward early learning and development of early literacy and numeracy skills. We endeavor to build a community of learners using an integrated child-centered curriculum that encourages self-learning. The comprehensive lessons and high-interest activities engage children and allow teachers to select age appropriate activities that stimulate the children’s interests and needs.  In addition our teachers prepare students to develop into independent skilled learners.

grades 1 to 3

The first years of a child’s schooling career are very aptly named “THE FOUNDATION PHASE” as it is in these years that the foundations are laid upon which all future learning takes place. It is imperative that these foundations are STRONG, or trying to build on them in the later years will be that much more difficult. The Foundation Phase is defined as Grade R to Grade 3, where ethics, manners and fundamental learning techniques are developed. The Foundation Phase follows the CAPS curriculum as prescribed by the Department of Education. Within our curriculum, we have a set of skills and standards that we ideally want our students to attain at the end of every phase in our school. The implementation of modern, skills-based methods of teaching and learning is always encouraged, and students become creative, critical thinkers as a result. At this level students are encouraged to work independently for short periods during lesson time, thereby preparing them to become students who are self-sufficient later in their schooling career.

Our Foundation Phase department is made up of inspired, experienced and professional educators. We have classrooms to ensure a stress free       environment that is conducive to learning.
